Teaching The Blind to Build a Better Future

Disability With Dignity For The Blind

people, partially sighted, or visually disabled, caused by retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, or blindness through illness, or military action.

There are several excellent charities that cater for the blind and partially sighted. Such as, RNIB and Action for blind people that supply information and advice however, we aim to go further and make life challenging and exciting.

We feel that life should be more than just existing.

Our aim is to teach blind and partially sighted people how to fulfil their ideas and ambitions in their normal everyday lives. How to carry out simple and not so simple tasks that many sighted people can do

Most blind and partially sighted people have had some form of training in the day to day chores such as making a hot drink or hot meal, or doing their washing etc. but, we go further.

We show how to modernise a home, construct a partition wall, erect a garden fence, build a tool store, or even a house extension.

All these projects are possible with the use of specially adapted tools. These include; talking tape measures, talking levels, talking calculators etc.

These tools are excellent and can totally change a visually impaired persons life

Simple everyday tools that can often be bought for a few pounds if you are sighted, cost around 10 times more for the talking version.

A 5 metre tape that can easily be bought for around £4 - £5 costs £42 - £90, a 2 foot (60cm) spirit level from £10 - £35 will set a blind or partially sighted person back £135 - £160.

We need your help to provide these essential tools..

Please donate anything you can afford now.

The government bodies do not consider these tools to be essentials and do not assist in their purchase.

Imagine what it's like to be stuck inside a sightless body…having the normal ideas and ambitions, but without the tools or know-how to carry them out.

What a boring existence. One of the worst effects of lost sight, is the feeling of uselessness, the feeling that you are just a burden on everyone around you.

With your help we can change this, and give them the opportunity to live a normal a life as everyone else.

If you know anyone who is blind or partially sighted, please tell them about www.blind-and-partially-sighted.org (baps).
